Towards a Taxonomy of Realtime Interfaces for Electronic Music Performance
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents a discussion regarding organology classification and taxonomies for digital musical instruments (DMI), arising from the TIEM (Taxonomy of Interfaces for Electronic Music performance) survey (http://tiem.emf.org/), conducted as part of an Australian Research Council Linkage project titled “Performance Practice in New Interfaces for Realtime Electronic Music Performance”. This research is being carried out at the VIPRe Lab at, the University of Western Sydney in partnership with the Electronic Music Foundation (EMF), Infusion Systems and The Input Devices and Music Interaction Laboratory (IDMIL) at McGill University. The project seeks to develop a schema of new interfaces for realtime electronic music performance.

Nowadays, automatic analysis of music signals has gained a considerable importance due to the growing amount of music data found on the Web. Music genre classification is one of the interesting research areas in music information retrieval systems. In this paper several techniques were implemented and evaluated for music genre classification including feature extraction, feature selection and m...
متن کاملTowards an Aesthetic of Electronic-Music Performance Practice
The performance of electronic-music shows a large number of different practices, some displaying cunning interfaces that minutely track physical motions, while others refuse the display of any performative actions on behalf of the performer. With today's availability of largely inexpensive interfaces, the choice of a particular performance practice does not come as a technological necessity but...
متن کاملStatic Analysis of Performance Parameters for Music Scores
Context : Music performance is by nature non deterministic : it is well known that two interpretations of the same music score, where all the notes and their durations are specified, can differ significantly, in particular wrt temporal aspects. However, despite the temporal variability, several musicians playing together manage (in general) to make the music sound " as expected " , using variou...

This paper describes recent advances in platformindependent object-oriented software for music and sound processing. The Siren system is the result of almost 20 years of continuous development in the Smalltalk programming language; it incorporates an abstract music representation language, interfaces for real-time I/O in several media, a user interface framework, and connections to object datab...
